NME Awards 2009: Bush “the villain” again?

nme11Noel vs Obama? Gordon Brown vs Pete Doherty? The Jonas Brothers vs Scouting For Girls? It can only be the NME Awards nominations…

This year’s NME Awards nominations prove to be a bit more lively than those for the Brit Awards. In an amusing twist, Oasis are up for both ‘Best Band’ and ‘Worst Band’. What if they win both?

And what in the hell is George W. Bush doing in a music awards show? In my humble opinion, a music awards show should stay clear of non-music categories like ‘Villain of the Year’ and ‘Hero of the Year’, which can only ever be embarassing.

I heard Bush is on target to win his sixth consecutive Villain of the Year award. Named alongside perennial asshats Bush (last year’s winner) were Gordon Brown, fellow mishap attractant Pete Doherty, the bumbling John McCain and poor Amy Winehouse.

Winners are voted for by the public and are due to be announced during the NME Awards 2009 ceremony at London’s Brixton Academy on 25th February.
